THE RESEARCH
THE
RESEARCH
Combining golf into the therapeutic process can have numerous benefits for individuals' mental and physical well-being including:
Stress Reduction
According to a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, engaging in physical activity like golf can significantly reduce stress levels. The study found that regular physical activity can lead to a 20-30% reduction in stress, which can be further enhanced when combined with therapy techniques like mindfulness or cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Improved Mental Health
A study in the journal JAMA Psychiatry found that physical activity, including golf, is associated with a reduced risk of depression. Regular physical activity, especially in natural settings like golf courses, can provide a sense of tranquility and improve overall mood.
Enhanced Cognitive Function
Text published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that physical activity, including golf, is linked to better cognitive function. Engaging in cognitive-behavioral therapy alongside physical activity can enhance the cognitive benefits by addressing specific mental health challenges.
Strengthened Coping Mechanisms
Combining therapy with physical activity provides individuals with effective coping mechanisms. A study in the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine found that such combinations can help people manage stress, anxiety, and even addiction.
Physical Health Benefits
Golf is a low-impact sport that can improve physical fitness. According to the British Journal of Sports Medicine, golfers tend to have better cardiovascular health and lower levels of obesity. Physical health improvements can contribute to overall well-being and mental health.
Long-Term Well Being
A report by the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights the importance of regular physical activity for long-term well-being. Combining therapy with physical activity like golf can encourage individuals to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle, which is associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases.
